Persona 4 - Day 8

May 15th
The group meets up at Junes and discusses how the person on the TV was most likely a guy, which breaks the previous pattern of the killer only going after females. After some more talking Chie sums up what they said as if it was new information, which sends Yukiko into another fit of laughter (this girl laughs at anything). That night on the Midnight Channel the figure comes in clearer and it's definitely Kanji.

May 16th
At school the gang confirms that the person was Kanji and Yukiko says that she knows his family since the inn buys textiles from them. So after school they all go to the textile store where they see a "Slender young man" who is obviously a girl. The game tries hard to enforce that it's a boy and everyone thinks it's a boy, but it's so clearly a girl that I'm going to call her GIRL until they give her proper name.

So after GIRL leaves the group begin to ask about Kanji, but Yosuke notices that there is a scarf for sale that matches the one that was a noose in the creepy room (wow, I forgotten about that)! It turns out that the reporter had commissioned a matching pair of scarfs to be custom made, but then only wanted the woman's scarf (did she break up with the politician before being put into the TV?). With the scarf there is now a link between Kanji and the other victims since they all had contact with the reporter in some way, although weakly).

Outside they see Kanji talking with with GIRL. GIRL says that she's interested in talking with him after school and that they should meet by the gates. Kanji, who is as blind as everyone else in the game, thinks GIRL is a guy and is puzzled by what she meant. He then spots the group eavesdropping and chases them away.

Instead of going back and warning Kanji that his life is in danger the group discusses how the situation blows apart there former theory that the attacks were based on revenge or something. They decide to tail Kanji and GIRL when they meet after school to find out what's going on and Chie gets a little too excited about all of it...

May 17th
The gang waits for Kanji and GIRL outside of the school and when they do show up thy just walk off right away. Chie decides that they should split up, having one group follow the two and the other stake out the textile store. She asks Tokka who he wants to be paired with I of course try to put him with Chie, but she is so against the idea of Yosuke and Yukiko being alone that she pairs herself with Yosuke to follow the guy (rejecting his idea they pose as lovers) and Tokka with Yukiko to watch the shop.

Tokka being stuck with the obviously pointless job of watching the store (isn't he the leader? Why did he let Chie decide this?) had at least one advantage, the time spent with Yukiko aloud them to form the priestess social link. Also Tokka asks straight out for her phone number and gets it, unlike him not having enough courage to ask Chie. Either Tokka has the higher courage required or he's less nervous around Yukiko.

Chie and Yosuke are about as subtle as a goon and are both soon spotted by Kanji. Chie, who also being blind, suspects that Kanji and GIRL are gay and basically says "not that there is anything wrong with that", which freaks out Kanji. Kanji then chases them around the place trying to explain that there is nothing going on between him and GIRL and Chie and Yosuke are too afraid to talk to him.

The two idiots report back to Tokka and Yukiko that they totally messed up and lost Kanji. Kanji then shows up and asks what they hell the four of them want with him. Instead of flat out warning him that his life is in danger (or at least stay away from big TVs) Chie vaguely asks if anything "strange" has happened lately (at least she didn't say "queer"), which sets him off again as to what they are insinuating. The group who have faced giant phoenixes and disturbing monsters of all kinds are once again chased off by one guy who is younger then them.

That night Yukiko calls Tokka to remind him to watch the Midnight Channel, and when he does he gets quite a shock. It looks like his awkward meeting with GIRL had brought out some orientation issues in Kanji, since his shadow shows up on TV in only a towel in a bath house and totally flaming!

May 18th
At school the the group discuss the rather odd programing that Kanji's shadow came up with and speculate as to why some one is causing it. Yosuke comes up with the theory that maybe the killer isn't interested in killing people and is just doing it for the perverse fun of watching the programs that the shadows come up with.

The idea that the killer is doing it for kicks sends Chie into a rage and she is even more determined to crush whoever is responsible! This new determination boosts the fool social link to a new level.

The gang then goes into the TV to find Kanji but Teddie is a bit out of sorts. It turns out that his nose is on the fritz and that he would need some more information about Kanji to be able to track him down, so they go back to the real world for some more info. After asking around it seems that no one really know Kanji at all, and their best bet is to ask GIRL, but she is only seen around Junes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and of course it's Wednesday today.

So since there is nothing else to do about it till tomorrow, I gather the group up to go into the TV and take another stab at the big shadow in the castle, but when they meet at Junes the fox is also there! The team agrees that the foxes knowledge of healing items would be a help and that the fox is keen to lend a paw, but they need to find out about Kanji before going back in. Having that avenue closed off I checked back with the school and it turns out that there is an extra soccer practice today.

This is odd since practices are not normally held on Wednesdays, but at least it increased Tokka's diligence stat up a rank even though it didn't do anything for his social link. Back at home Tokka spent another evening with Nanako who talked about how she was glad she had Tokka there and that boosted his social link.

May 19th
The scores for the mid terms were posted today, and of course Tokka was in the top 10. This supposedly helped his social links but no clear change happened.
After school it was straight to Junes for Tokka to meet with GIRL. All she could tell him was that Kanji reacted weird when she asked about anything strange happening and that he may have some sort of complex. Well duh! We knew all that already! Teddie wasn't impressed either by this info but it was at least enough to get a general idea as to where he was.

They find the new bath house dungeon and while the homoerotic dialogue may not be as creepy as implied the new monster are! One of the really weird new monsters are big fat policemen with holes in there bodies where a large key hangs o_O. Also the monsters were much stronger, if the team didn't do all that grinding to get to level 19 to face the castle shadow they wouldn't have survived level 1. The levels are also about twice as large as the castle too.

Half way up level 3 the team runs into the shadow Kanji, who is even more gay than before, and now even has his own show title like Yukiko's shadow had. I guess she wasn't the only one looking to "score with a hot stud". O_o

After the shadow leaves Teddie makes a joke how they have to stop him before he ends up "bear naked". Yukiko catches the pun and pauses for a moment... and then doesn't think it's funny. Poor Teddie, I guess not everything makes Yukiko laugh.

After making it to level 5 the team has to call it a day because they are all drained of magic, so they regroup at the entrance of the TV world and find the fox there offering to heal them...

FOR OVER 40,000 YEN!
Man that fox is a greedy bastard (though I don't know it's gender)! I think a cheaper good night sleep would be better for the group. Tomorrow it's back to the schedule.
