Persona 4 - Day 1

Ok, change of plans.

I got Persona 4 today, and instead of playing through the 4 other games in the series before playing it I decided to skip right to it for now. Not only that, I'm putting all my other games on hiatus and playing P4 every day until I finish it!

April 11th

First Thing that happens in the game is that you start off facing Igor in the Velvet Room, but this time it's not in a room but the back of a speeding limo! Another change is that his assistant Elizabeth from P3 has been replaced with Margaret.
So Igor asks for my character's name and then using taro cards he foretells that a disaster is coming and I will have to make a choice and eventually sign a contract. Once he's finished talking it quickly cuts to an anime video of a girl in a bikini...O_o

Turns out it's just a commercial which leads into a news report about a politician married to famous singer who is having an affair with news reporter. While the news is going the scene changes to follow the protagonists (who I named Tokka Soph) on a train, thinking of how he recently had to change schools. When the train goes into a tunnel he has visions of a woman being attack and then Igor in the Velvet Room (I guess this is the point at which the first bit happened). When the train stops Tokka is met by his uncle Dojima, who he will be staying with whils his parents are away with work, and his very adorable daughter Nanako.

Once at home Dojima leaves during dinner after his phone rings, turns out he's a police detective and something came up. After watching more news about the celebrity love triangle (and Nanako singing the jingle for the local mega-store Junes) Tokka goes to sleep in his sparsely decorated room and then finds himself in a foggy space on a red block road. At the end of the road Tokka meets a shadowy figure who he has to fight, but the figure just brings up more fog and disappears.

Well it's the first day at his new school for Tokka, and Nanako shoes him the way there, which happens to be near a flood plain while it's raining (i bet that's foreshadowing the disaster).

On the way to school Tokka sees Yosuke (a fellow student) smash his bike into a poll >_<. At school Tokka meets his homeroom teacher Mr. Morooka, a hateful annoying jerk!

Before school ends there is an announcement that the police are ding somethign in the area and that everyone should go straight home. On the way out Tokka is met by Chie and Yukiko, who are curious about the new student, they don't wear the same uniforms as everyone else so they are the only splashes of color in the whole school.

Before leaving the school Yukiko is approached by a very strange looking guy (he has no eyes!) who seems to be asking her out. This seems like an minor thing except that he has his own character image, so he must play a larger part later on. On the way home Chie shows off the points of interest of the town... or lack there of.

On the way the three of them discover that the police incident was actually that some woman was found dead hanging upside down form a TV antenna, and it's revealed on the news that it was the reporter from the love triangle o_O! To break up the weirdness Nanako sings again the Junes jingle when the commercial comes on again and Tokka joins in before going to sleep for most likely the last normal night in the game...

April 13th

After school Chie, Yosuke, and Tokka go to Junes (which it turns out Yosuke's father is the manger of) for somethign to eat where they meet Saki (Yosuke's crush) who had found the body the day before. Later Chie tells Yosuke, and Tokka about a urban legend where if you look at an off tv at midnight on a rainy day alone you see your true love (kinda like the Persona ledgend at the start of P1), and the gets them both to promis to try it that night.

When Tokka tries it at first nothing and then he sees brief flashs of what looks liek a woman dancing, and she kinda looks like Saki o_O.

Even weirder is that after the image goes away Tokka gets his arm and head stuck temporarily in the little TV!

April 14th
The next day it turns out that all three of them had the same vision (which Chie think means they have the same true love), but only Tokka could enter his TV (which the other two think was a dream). All the talk of TVs though reminds Chie that her family is looking for a new one, so the three of them go to Junes to look at big flat screens. while there Tokka tries touching the screen and he can still pass through!

After a bit of chaos all three of them end up on the other side of the TV, where it looks like a TV set filled with yellow fog... While looking for and exit they find a disturbing room that is filled with posters with the faces missing (which turns out to be the singer from the love triangle), huge blood (or paint) stains, and a chair under a rope with a scarf noose!

Feeling sick they get out of the room as fast as possible and go back to the studio. There they are greeted by Teddy, the weird bear (or suit) thing that lives in that space. Teddy mentions that some one keeps throwing people into his space and he finds it annoying, so he fortunately conjures up 3 TVs and sends the gang home.

Tokka then goes back home to sleep, and so do I until tomorrow...
