Completed chapter 5 today, which was rather more challenging than the previous ones. The battle takes place in a woodland area where the opponents have a supply depot, so not only is there uneven and cluttered terrain but the enemy is entrenched.
On the story side, the protagonist (who's name I'll eventually remember) uses his uses his skills in natural studies to find an alternative trail that half his squad can flank the enemy with. This is mostly pointless in game since only tactical advantage I got out of is was taking out 1 anti tank artillery. Along the why they find a baby winged pig that they adopt as part of the squad, and I guess to add some oddly placed whimsy.
An interesting thing about the optional squad members (only 4 are mandatory for the story), is that while they are never featured in the story segments they all have their own unique looks, character, and voices. Also as they are used in battled and leveled up (not sure what effects it) more of their bio information is revealed. They also have postive and negetive trais that affects combat, like being unconfrtable in the city, or loving hot environments, so not all of them are cut out for every mission. One aspect of the trait is that some have prejudges, either towards the enemy or the dark haired race the half-sister belongs to, or even just against everyone in general. This can be frustrating when I needed more snipers but half the candidates where racist jerks that I don't want on my team (already have 2 put up with 2 story mandatory ones).
