The case I did today was a rather odd one, in that there wasn't really a case and all the crimes were peripheral.
The jerk partner loses a lot of money when the fighter he's betting on dosen't take a dive, so he and half the organized crime in the city are looking for him, and Cole gets dragged along. All the while Cole is getting more and more fed up with how corrupt vice squad and the higher ups seems to be. In the end Cole lets the fighter escape (he committed no crimes) and annoys his partner in the process!
Nice to see that he plays by the law and not by the politics.
